Glasgow's Summer Family Festivals 2019

Southside Fringe

Dates: 10th May - 26th May 2019

Venue: Various locations across Southside Glasgow

Enjoy a fortnight of music, workshops and events south of the river Clyde when the Southside Fringe Festival returns in May 2019!

The Southside Fringe will run from the 10th - 26th May 2019! With 200 events in 50 venues, this is the biggest community organised event in Glasgow!

The Southside Fringe is focused upon providing a fortnight of quality opportunities for acts, performers and musicians. We also hope to involve as many venues and businesses as we can with a view to boosting existing custom over the fortnight and to raise the profile of the Southside on the arts landscape and draw new customers, visitors and audiences to the wonderful facilities the Southside has to offer. None of us as organisers will be drawing earnings from the fringe and are running the not for profit business as volunteers.

It’s an incredibly exciting time in the Southside with several venues actively encouraging creativity and supporting local Southside talent. The ethos of the Southside Fringe is very much ‘strength in numbers’ : the more facets of the community and local businesses who get involved the louder our voice and the bigger the Southside’s profile will be on the festival map.

West End Festival

Dates: Friday 31st May - Sunday 30th June 2019

Venue: Various locations across West End of Glasgow

The West End Festival is Glasgow's largest cultural event hosting a wide variety of events and performances each June!

The West End Festival (WEF) is Glasgow’s largest community cultural event and every June delights the imaginations of participants, residents and visitors in the west end of Glasgow. In 2018 it celebrates its 23rd year.

Over 100 Glasgow-based organisations, arts groups and local and international artists deliver a mixture of activities and projects, overseen by a small festival team. WEF brings all of these activities together in the festival programme and includes all sorts of music, local history events, exhibitions, theatre and dance performances, talks, guided walks, workshops and film screenings, and many are free of charge to allow accessibility.  WEF’s ethos is to include participants and venues that can complement the already diverse programme.

Glasgow Mela

Dates: Sunday 23rd June 2019

Venue: Kelvingrove Park, Glasgow

The Glasgow Mela, Scotland's biggest multi-cultural festival of music, dance, arts and food, returns to Kelvingrove Park on Sunday 23rd June!

Glasgow Mela is Scotland's biggest free multicultural festival, bursting with live music, theatre performances, exotic mouth-watering foods from around the globe and fun for all ages.

Bard in the Botanics 2019: Muse of Fire

Date: Wednesday 26th June to Wednesday 3rd of August 2019

Venue: Glasgow Botanic Gardens

Scotland's biggest and best-loved Shakespeare Festival, Bard in the Botanics, returns this Summer to Glasgow's Botanic Gardens with their 'Muse of Fire' Season!

Bard in the Botanics hosts a range of productions every summer in the beautiful and historic surroundings of Glasgow's Botanic Gardens.

Shakespeare’s most romantic comedy makes a welcome return to Bard in the Botanics in this brand new production. Full of warmth, wit and a very modern approach to love, this is the perfect treat for a summer’s evening.

Date: Jun 26, 2019 – Jul 13, 2019

A brand new production of Shakespeare’s brilliant meditation on war, and leadership, and the act of ‘playing’ itself. In the gorgeous surroundings of the Kibble Palace Glasshouse, six actors tell the story of this famous King; a story full of heroism and sacrifice, as a great man ruthlessly pursues the victory he will stop at nothing to achieve.

Date: Jun 27, 2019 – Jul 13, 2019

Shakespeare's most human and heartfelt tragedy is both an exciting thriller and a stunning exploration of grief, love and family that takes an audience on an exciting journey to the very core of what it means to be alive.

Date: June 18, 2019 – Aug 3, 2019

This new production of the tale of Shakespeare’s gloriously terrifying malcontent is performed by a cast of four actors. By turns, thrilling and horrifying, and shot through with the blackest of humour, this production is essential viewing for today’s turbulent times.
